Thanks to a gracious gift from the Edgar County Community Foundation, our members are now delighted to play on a fully-functional professionally restored floor! The ECCF is dedicated to the residents of Edgar County: their facilities, their education and their welfare. The mission of the Edgar County Community Foundation seeks to raise the quality of life throughout Edgar County by developing and channeling philanthropy to meet the changing needs of its residents. The Rec Center was showered with blessings from this amazing organization in early 2018. Much deliberation and consideration went into spending the money wisely and making as many capital improvements as we could with the granted funds. A special committee consisting of Rec Board members and staff was put together to guide the process.
It was determined that a portion of the initial funds were to be spent on the renovation of the main gymnasium floor. The front gym is one of our main attractions for membership and guest passes along with youth and adult programming. The gym had extreme wear and tear since the initial laying of the wood floor in the late 1980’s. It was also time for the removal of the YMCA logo and the addition of our beautiful new Rec logo and color scheme.
The remainder of the funds fulfilled our Phase II capital improvement process, completed in August 2019, which included renovating and upgrading the front lobby by bringing fresh colors and updated materials to our desk/ lobby area. Without the financial support of incredible organizations like the ECCF, capital improvements of such a large nature would be extremely taxing, if not impossible. Truly an organization to be celebrated and appreciated, The Rec Center is grateful for the support of The Edgar County Community Foundation!
